You can not have two feelings of an opposite nature occupy the same space at the same time. What this means is that if you are feeling comfortable and calm it is impossible to feel anxiety and stress. You have to trade one for the other. You can not have these feelings at the same time. Try it, it is impossible to feel anxiety and relaxation at the same time.
While seated in a chair take 3 slow deep breaths each time you inhale breathe in positive thoughts and energy, each time you exhale concentrate on releasing any negative thoughts and energy. You can do this with your eyes open or closed. While breathing concentrate on you feet. Notice how they feel. Now tense the muscles in you feet as you inhale knowing that the positive thoughts and energy that you are breathing are going to your feet. When you exhale release and relax the muscles in your feet. Now concentrate on your calves, tense the muscles while you inhale thinking positive thoughts. Release the tension when you exhale. Now repeat this process for the following areas of the body, hips and thighs, torso, shoulders, arms and hands, head and neck. . While you are doing this exercise you should be thinking of a positive and happy place. It can be a seashore, the mountains, or the desert. You can also remember a relaxing vacation that you have had. What you focus on while doing this relaxation is totally up to you. However it should be of a positive nature.
